About Han La Pourte

Han La Poutré, board member of the AI, Media and Democracy Lab, is senior researcher at CWI, conducts research that focusses on multi-agent and computational intelligence techniques, specifically for market and optimization approaches for the future Smart Energy Systems (SES), and that often involves collaborations with experts in electrical engineering and economics. 

La Poutré obtained his M.Sc. in Mathematics from TU Eindhoven in 1986 and completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Utrecht University in 1991. From 1991 to 1997, he worked as a researcher (postdoc) at Princeton University, KNAW fellow at Utrecht University, and Leiden University. Since 1997, he has been a senior researcher at CWI and group leader IAS until 2016. In 2001, he became a full professor and has held tenured positions at several universities, including TU Delft, Eindhoven, and Utrecht (part-time). In 2012, he joined the Management Team of CWI Research. He is a board member of the AI, Media and Democracy Lab.
