There are plans for the Dutch company Solvinity, which operates the platform of the national identification system DigiD, to be acquired by an ICT infrastructure provider from the United States, Kyndryl. Natali Helberger was featured in a video piece from EenVandaag discussing the possible concerns this decision raises in terms of Dutch digital autonomy. The main issue is the fact that DigiD is used to log in to government websites that contain sensitive information, and there is no available alternative; so, the government needs to begin considering future strategies for maintaining national digital autonomy and data security.
