About Agustin Ferrari Braun

Agustin Ferrari Braun is a PhD Candidate at the Media Studies department at the University of Amsterdam. In his doctoral research, Agustin explores the politics of digital infrastructure in the media ecosystem, paying particular attention to the power relations contained in technological systems. In particular, he is interested in the ways in which digital technologies have changed the production environments of news organisations over the past decade. He explores these questions through a comparative analysis of news media companies in France and the Netherlands, using both semi-structured interviews and digital methods. Agustin’s research is funded by the AlgoSoc Consortium, a publicly-funded interdisciplinary project seeking to study and advance public values in the algorithmic society. He is also a research fellow at the Critical Infrastructures Lab and was affiliated with the Institut de Recherche Médias, Cultures, Communication et Numérique at the University Sorbonne Nouvelle while doing fieldwork in France.

Prior to starting his PhD, Agustin worked as a lecturer in the Media Studies department of the University of Amsterdam. He holds a r.M.A. in Media Studies from that same institution, and a B.A. in Political Science and Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge.
