The Second Edition of the ELSA Magazine

The Dutch AI Coalition recently released the second edition of their ELSA Magazine, which keeps up with the various ELSA Labs and their projects. ELSA (Ethical, Legal & Societal Aspects) is an initiative that researches how AI can contribute to our society responsibly. The AI, Media and Democracy Lab was spotlighted in this edition of the magazine.

In the frame of the edition’s broader theme methodology, the article takes a closer look at the inner workings of two of our current projects: The BBC Project, and the Disclosures Project.

In an interview, Anna Schjøtt Hansen and Hannes Cools discussed their collaborative research which aimed to contribute to the understanding and practice of responsible AI at the BBC. How can AI be implemented into the media without harming democratic processes?

Karthikeya Venkatraj explained the importance of transparency when it comes to users interacting with AI systems. How can this be done effectively, and to what extent does the EU AI Act play a role?
