Our lab at the ESMH Summer School

The summer school with the topic of Science Communication in the age of AI organized by the European Science Media Hub of the European Parliament’s Panel for the Future of Science and Technology (STOA) has recently taken place, and our lab was well represented in the beginning and closing sessions, which you can watch here!

Hannes Cools moderated the opening session, a panel on “The future of (science) journalism: AI, trust, and democracy”, in which discussants reflected on the broad impacts of AI on journalism, media consumption, public trust, and democracy.

Theresa Josephine Seipp was part of the closing session discussion, “EU regulation on AI: implications for the media, journalism, and disinformation”, in which the effectiveness of the AI Act and the Digital Services Act in mitigating disinformation and promoting media pluralism was debated.

The democratic implications of AI on communication and information flows are a continuous focus of our research, and contributing to events like this one that cater to younger journalists is a special occasion for us to promote the importance of these topics to the next generation and offer new perspectives.
